I am a Clinical Psychologist with over ten years of experience working within Mental Health Teams, and with individuals with chronic health conditions, in the NHS. The majority of my expertise is in assessing and treating teenagers and adults experiencing a wide range of psychological, emotional, relational and physical health difficulties. These often include people who have experienced trauma in their lives, who struggle in their relationship(s), who are experiencing chronic health problems, or who have been through difficult life transitions. Whereas I have an interest in helping people to make sense of their individual experience aside from their diagnoses, I have had experience working with individuals who have been diagnosed with a wide-range of mental health conditions. This has included: depression, anxiety (e.g., health anxiety, OCD, generalised anxiety), post-traumatic stress disorder, phobias, bipolar, personality disorders (e.g., borderline personality disorder), eating disorders (e.g., anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, eating disorder-not otherwise specified) and postnatal difficulties (including postnatal depression).
As a Clinical Psychologist I have been trained to draw on a number of models, depending on the unique needs of an individual. This includes aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Systemic and Family Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy and mindfulness. The evidence base teaches that although adherence to a therapeutic model can influence therapeutic outcome, the person of the therapist, the person of the client, and the relationship they co-create has a much more significant influence. I therefore prioritise developing an authentic and trusting therapeutic relationship, whereby I can hear that individual’s narrative, and facilitate their anxiety regulation and connection to their emotions, to allow them to reach their individual goals from therapy.
I have completed additional qualifications in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness. I have also completed two years of additional specialist psychotherapy training in Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). I also have expertise in the assessment of autism spectrum disorders.
